Below are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.

About Voice of DAISY

Q. Transferred digital talking books have disappeared.

Voice of DAISY 4.0 may overwrite a book if it shares its ID with another one. It happens because DAISY standards mandates that all DAISY digital talking books have an individual ID. For example if three books share the same ID, the two first ones will be overwritten, and only the third version will remain.

To avoid automatic overwriting, turn off the [Updated book overwriting] function in setting menu.

Q. Can I download DAISY digital talking books from the Internet?

Yes. Although Voice of DAISY doesn’t come with a downloading function, you can add talking books downloaded on Web browsing apps such as Safari.

Q. Can I transfer DAISY digital talking books from other apps such as Dropbox?

Yes. You can add DAISY digital talking books from online file storage service apps such as Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive).

Please follow the instructions on each app’s help page.

Q. How can I transfer DAISY digital talking books that have already been extracted in a folder?

If you have expanded DAISY talking books on your computer or on a CD-R, please zip each book. Full folders, or just their contents, can be zipped. Including discinfo.html isn’t required.

Q. Downloading of a DAISY digital talking book on Safari has failed.

If your iOS device has not enough free space, the downloaded book file might not be transferred on Voice of DAISY, or the download may continue indefinitely.

Please check if you have enough space on your iOS device, and try downloading again.

Q. Is this Compatible with VoiceOver?

Yes, All operations in Voice of DAISY can be performed with VoiceOver.

Q. Can I also play a DAISY 2.02 digital talking book?

Yes.

Q. Can I also play a DAISY 2.0 digital talking book?

No.

Q. Can I also play a DAISY 3 digital talking book?

No.

Q. Can I delete DAISY digital talking books on my iOS device from iTunes?

No. A DAISY digital talking book transferred to a device such as iPhone is removed from the iTunes application itself, but you need to delete it through the Voice of DAISY app.

Q. I can’t play it with the internal speaker.

The mute switch may have been activated (turning orange). Turn off the mute switch on your iOS device. If it’s on, Voice of DAISY won’t play on the speaker.
*The mute switch is located on the top-left side of the iPhone and iPod touch, and on the top-right side of iPad.

Error message

Q. [ERROR 107 Not enough free space. Cannot expand zip file] and the transferred zip file has disappeared.

If there isn’t enough space to zip the file on your iOS device, please liberate enough space, and try again.

Q. [ERROR 110 xxxxxxxx.zip Unzip failure]

Please check if you have enough space on your iOS device. Voice of DAISY can’t extract zip files over 4GB.

Q. There is enough space on my iOS device but I still get the error message [ERROR 107 Not enough free space…].

It seems iTunes is not able to verify how much free space there is on your iOS device.

Please try it again by reconnecting the cable.

Creating DAISY digital talking books

Q. Are there any guidelines for creating DAISY digital talking books that can play properly on Voice of DAISY?

Yes. Please see Voice of DAISY Technical Information.

Q. Is there a size limit for digital talking books?

Yes. Zip files which over 4GB can’t be extracted.

Purchasing Voice of DAISY

Q. Can I buy it outside of App Store?

No. iOS apps can only be purchased at the App Store.

Q. I don't have a credit card. What else can I make a payment?

Without using a credit card, you can buy Voice of DAISY using an iTunes card.

Please see the instructions on how to use an iTunes card on Apple’s website.

If you wish to make other kinds of payment, please contact Apple Support.

Q. Can I get a receipt when I purchase the app?

No, we can’t issue a receipt.

Please contact Apple Support if you need one.

Q. Is there a volume license program for academic use?

Yes. Apple offers the Apple Volume Purchase Program for Education Store.
A 50% discount is applied on purchases of 20 app licenses or more.
