What is Voice of DAISY?
Voice of DAISY is a DAISY digital talking book player that can handle the multimedia DAISY.
DAISY is an international standard for individuals with visual impairment or dyslexia who experience difficulty reading printed matter.
Voice of DAISY can be operated from VoiceOver.
Its operating environment is as follows:
Supported hardware:
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
iPod touch (2nd generation or later)
iPad
Supported OS:
iPhone and iPod touch: iOS 4.0 or later
iPad: iOS 3.2 or later
DAISY digital talking books can be played:
Digital talking book with DAISY 2.02 compliant audio and NCC only
Digital talking book with DAISY 2.02 compliant audio and full text
You cannot play a DAISY digital talking book that is encrypted for copyright protection.

To transfer the DAISY digital talking book to your iPhone
The DAISY digital talking book should be compiled into one file using the zip format.
Also, you have to use iTunes version 9.2 or later.
You can transfer a DAISY digital talking book that is stored in a PC and Mac to an iPhone using the following procedure:
1. Exit VOD if it is running.
2. Connect your iPhone to your PC or Mac.
3. Launch iTunes.
4. In iTunes, select iPhone from DEVICES.
5. Click [Apps] tab.
6. Select VOD from the list in the [Apps] tab.
7. Click [Add...] button and specify a DAISY digital talking book zip file.

The digital talking book is transferred to the iPhone immediately.
8. Launch VOD.
If VOD finds a new DAISY digital talking book at the startup, VOD expands the zip file and checks if the data is valid.
Wait until the complete dialog appears.
To remove the DAISY digital talking book from your iPhone
You can remove a DAISY digital talking book from your iPhone using the following procedure:
1. Launch VOD.
2. Tap the [Edit] button of the [Bookshelf] screen.

3. Tap the [−] button on the left of the digital talking book you want to remove.
4. Tap the [Delete] button.

List of DAISY digital talking books
After launch of the VOD, the [Bookshelf] screen appears when the new digital talking book check is finished, or if there is no newly added digital talking book.
The example of the [Bookshelf] screen is shown below.

The meaning of each icon is describe below.
A digital talking book already played
A digital talking book not played yet
A file that cannot be played
Tap one of the digital talking books to switch to the [TOC] screen.
shows the VOD version number.

Select by the position (select from the table of contents)
Select a digital talking book from the [Bookshelf] screen to switch to the following screen.
Tap the point where you want to start.

Tapping the [Start] button at the top right starts from the beginning of the digital talking book.

Select by the position (select from the page numbers)
If the DAISY digital talking book is set with the page number, you can specify a page number.
Tap the page number.

Some DAISY digital talking books may have no page numbers.

Select by the position (select from the bookmarks)
If you have placed bookmarks in the DAISY digital talking book, you can start from the point of any bookmark.
Tap the bookmark.

Allowed operations during play
The example of the play screen is shown below.
The reading target is highlighted in yellow.

Changes the font size to any of 5 levels.
Changes the speed and pitch of reading.
See Change the reading speed.
Move the play target back by one.
Plays.
Pauses play.
Move the play target forward by one.
See Use level navigation.
See Placing a bookmark.
Other operations, including the following, are possible.
Change display magnification by pinching
You can scale the display magnification using the pinch operation on the screen.
Scroll texts
You can scroll the texts using the flick operation.
Tap to change the play target
You can tap any text on the screen to play from that position.

Change the reading speed
Changes the speed, pitch, and interval of reading.

If you move the [Speed] slider to the right, the reading speed becomes faster.
If you move the [Pitch] slider to the right, the reading voice becomes higher.
If you move the [Interval] slider to the right, the mute period between one reading and the next becomes longer.

Start from where the last play ended
To start from where the last play ended, tap the [Restart] button on the [TOC] screen.

indicates the position where the previous play ended.

Placing a bookmark
You can place a bookmark at the current position by tapping the [Bookmark] button when the position at which you wish to place a bookmark is being played.
